Announcing the 2025 Advanced Facilitator Training Ambassadors

Each year iLead Consulting and Training guides a cohort of facilitators through Advanced Facilitator Training (AFT). Often, a few of our previous year’s candidates come back and help the new facilitators by providing coaching and guidance, acting as a big brother or sister as it were, to those navigating this challenging course.
This year we have three Ambassadors joining our ranks:

Kevin Johnson

Kevin Johnson, Director of Operations at iLead Consulting & Training, brings a wealth of experience both on and off the golf course. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Kevin was a standout NCAA golfer at Drake University and the University of Iowa before becoming a Hank Haney Certified Golf Instructor. Over the next 20 years, he dedicated himself to coaching young golfers.  There he earned accolades such as U.S. Kids Golf Top Kids Instructor in America (2006-2008), U.S. Kids Golf Top 50 Master Instructor (2009), Golf Digest Best Young Teachers in America (2016-2019), and Golf Digest Best Teacher in Texas (2017-2018).
Despite his many successes, Kevin faced a new challenge when Tom Pearce, iLead’s President and Chief Encouragement Office began working with him on improving his own golf game. Although the improvements on the green were modest (there’s only so much you can do!), Tom recognized Kevin’s extraordinary potential for leadership development. This led Kevin to pursue certification in The Leadership Challenge® coursework, where he is now in his second year working toward becoming a Certified Master Facilitator. His journey includes helping others develop their skills and confidence in this program.
Kevin lives in McKinney, Texas, with his wife of 19 years, Jamie, and their three children: twins Kaeden and Addee (15), and Graesen (13). It’s a busy household, with Addee playing basketball and volleyball, Graesen active in basketball, and Kaeden pursuing his passion for acting through school theater.

Terry Black

Terry has worked in the learning and development industry since 1984 and has fulfilled roles in state government, federal government (U.S. Army), and in the private sector.

Since 2012, he has been employed with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service. In his current role, Senior Business Project Manager, he acts as an internal consultant to the Director of Senior and Disability Services. Areas that he consults on include Interpersonal Communication skills, Organizational Development and Process Improvement.

Terry lives in Columbia, Missouri with his wife, Terrie Ann, and their standard poodle, Frank. He has two adult sons, a grandson (Liam) and two granddaughters (Serena and Noelle). When not helping people become the best version of themselves, he stays busy reading both fiction and non-fiction, listening to a wide variety of music, assembling jigsaw puzzles, exploring the fare of unique local eateries, trying out kitchen gadgetry, and staying fit through strength training and walking.

Steve Gfell

Steve Gfell is a seasoned HR Director who leads with a focus on cultivating impactful leadership and enhancing employee engagement. With over two decades of experience in educational leadership, including 15 years as a high school principal, Steve leverages his background to build a strong, growth-focused culture. Known for his expertise in employee engagement and performance management, he has implemented initiatives that reduce turnover and foster a supportive workplace environment.

Outside of HR, Steve coaches high school football and regularly exercises, bringing the same commitment and discipline to the field and gym as he does to his team. A husband, father of three, and lifelong learner, Steve blends strategic vision with an approachable style, driving both individual and organizational growth.
