Quick Tips

These small but powerful nuggets of leadership wisdom can be quickly and easily implemented in the workplace.

Challenge the Process

Challenge the Status Quo

It has been four months since most of us were ordered to stay home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The way you and your organization operated in February may look quite different today. When you think about all the changes that have come about during this unprecedented time, I am sure you have had to challenge the status quo, as what you have always done may not work in this new environment. At your next staff meeting, ask your staff:

  • Looking back over the last few months, “What have we learned?” Are there things that worked well that we should continue? Are there things that did not work quite right but could be tweaked and be successful in a changed environment?
  • What would be one example of a leadership project that would change business as usual? Who from your team can tackle this project?
  • What kinds of things do you currently do to actively challenge leadership behavior among the team?

Hopefully, these tips will get you and your team searching for opportunities to innovate and improve. Thinking about what can be learned when things do not go as expected can strengthen us as leaders and have a positive impact on the environments in which we work.
